Ponting on his last legs?

Ricky Ponting has denied claims that he’s to retire after the World Cup. The Daily Mail reported earlier overnight that Punter’s hand had been forced by Cricket Australia, and would step down if Australia lose to India tomorrow – and seek a dotage in county cricket.

But he told a press conference earlier today: “I don’t see the finish line, I want to keep playing both forms of the game as long as I think I can contribute. Nothing’s changed for me in the past 12 months. I’ve said all along, every time I’ve been asked about retirement, I’m enjoying my cricket as much as ever. I’ve never, ever thought about retirement or where the finish line might be.”

If there turns out to be more truth to the claims than Ponting admits, which counties might be interested in signing him? Would you like him at your club? Brilliant player – and lots of fun to be had by opposition supporters in the form of vociferous booing.

Meanwhile, Jade Dernbach. No, me neither, until a few days ago. Here’s a nice profile of English cricket’s most exotically-named hot prospect – also from the Mail.
