Record partnership will be questioned if Amir overstepped the line

Imagine nailing your dream job and then going out to celebrate in a mood of euphoria. While you’re living it up in the pub, you beat Phil Taylor at darts, whip Tony Drago at pool, then get approached by a girl with supermodel looks who kisses you passionately and then begs you to take her home. Sounds like a result, right? Well now imagine waking up the next morning to discover that you only got the job because your super-rich uncle pulled a few strings, that the blokes you thought were Phil Taylor and Tony Drago were actually Big Daddy in a wig, and that the Claudia Schiffer look-a-like only snogged you for a bet. Welcome to the world of Jonathan Trott and Stuart Broad.

Before I continue, I must point out that I have no inside knowledge as to where Paul Collingwood took his team mates after dinner on Friday night, nor do I know what transpired thereafter. I’m simply referring to the criminal investigation that’s currently underway into alleged wrongdoings by certain Pakistani cricketers at Lords. Cynics will speculate that if bowlers can deliberately bowl no-balls, maybe they might be tempted to bowl longhops and half-volleys too (or possibly even drop catches?). It’s far too early to know exactly what, if anything, irregular transpired at Lord’s – but whatever the result of this latest inquiry, some people will always question the authenticity of Trott and Broad’s record breaking ninth wicket partnership.

  • As ever the players are judged gulity by the newspapers – surely the police are not needed to investigate the situation and the News of the World should be able to send the perpetrators straight to jail. Lets hope the whole situation is investigated correctly and if the players are gulity, they should be banned for life. However, at this stage, it is still only an allegation and the tour should continue.
