Flower signs new contract

If there were any remaining fears that Andy Flower would leave his post with England  – more unlikely after India recruited Duncan Fletcher – they’ve been finally quelled this morning by the news that the ECB have concluded a new deal with the Zimbabwean wundercoach.

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to build on the considerable progress we have made to date as a squad”, he said this morning, in full press-release mode.  “[I] remain fully committed to developing the side and ensuring we are in a position to realise our objective of becoming the No1 side in the world”.

No news yet of the length of the contract, or any disclosure of the money involved. But it looks like the Lord’s top brass have learned the lessons of the Troy Cooley debacle and clung on to their man. Flower is a tremendous asset for England; thanks goodness he’ll stay in our hands for for the foreseeable future.
