Fantasy Cricket and Prediction Games

James Pope from Fanto and Matt Gisby have been in touch to tell us about games they’ve developed for The Ashes. I thought I’d pass on the details.

James runs a fantasy league site and he’s put together an Ashes version you might be interested in. It works a bit like the fantasy games you see in the newspapers, but the fanto version looks a bit simpler to set up and monitor … which has got to be a good thing.

Here’s what it’s all about in James’s words:

November is here and that can mean only one thing: the Ashes down under starts this month!

Well to the very keen observers the tour actually started on the 4th of November. Fireworks to begin a day earlier than Guy Fawkes would have liked!

So how to ensure that you get fully emotionally involved and reaching for the phone as soon as you wake up in the morning?

The answer without a shadow of a doubt is Fantasy Cricket. You simply create a league between you and your friends and bring the fierce competition right into your front room. The friendly banter will be able to last over the course of the whole tour.

Picking teams couldn’t be easier as there are no budgets involved, and you only need to make transfers before the start of every match.

All you need is for a chairman to create a friends league. If said chairman is also kind enough they can add the emails into the league creation process and a notification will be waiting for the friends as they log in for the first time! No need to worry about what the bloody pin is.

Select from a range of formations – fancy no all-rounder, but want to use an extra bowler? – not a problem. Only four players are needed for each match so your memory of who is in your team will not be tested!

The point scoring is very straight forward. Here’s how it works. Simply create an account now and play for FREE at fanto. Easy.

Meanwhile, Matt Gisby has been in contact with Chance To Shine to develop an Ashes predictions game. It’s ten quid to enter with half the proceeds going to the ultimate winner and the other half going to the charity. A good cause I’m sure you’ll agree.

Here’s how it all works according to Matt. Looks like quite a few big names have entered so why not see if you can beat them?

I have made up an Ashes Prediction Competition so we can have a go at trying to predict the outcome of this series and enjoy the action even if England do go down early. There are 20 questions for you to have a go at and we will find the ultimate judge!

Money will be split 50/50 between the outright winner and Chance To Shine, who coach and teach youngsters who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance. They go into primary schools, cricket clubs, hospitals and help those with disabilities play the game in the right spirit.

I’ve been in touch with Ian Foster, who is head of fundraising at the charity, in order to make it an official Chance To Shine fundraiser. However, doing this would have required quite a lot more rules and regs and charity red tape; therefore we’re keeping it unofficial and he’s going to enter himself, and pass it on to others in the office, so there’s still a good representation from the charity.

When we have tallied up at the end to find out who’s won, I will make the donation to the charity (and provide evidence for this)!

In order to enter there is a £10 entry fee. The more in the pot, the more money we make for charity and the winner.

I am not entering myself in case I somehow win! Instead I’ve paid for my good Aussie pal and Sheffield Shield guru Josh Michel’s entry. If he wins it will all be going to charity.

Im accepting a bank transfer or cheque. Please pop £10 with YOUR NAME on the reference over to bank account. This is obviously not my usual account!

Alternatively please make a cheque payable to Mr Matthew Gisby and send to:

Thus far we’ve had a great response with a few ‘big names’ entering. Durham batsman Will Smith, who captained the county to their 2009 title, has entered, as has Racing’s finest commentator Richard Hoiles – a genius on the binoculars & mic. We’ve also got ITV and Racing UK presenter Oli Bell, Cricket tipster for The Racing Post Ed Hawkins, and Top UK poker player Jack Salter aka “The Bermondsey Bluffer”.

Spreadex spread betting company have also entered 5 of their guys for the comp, and stated that should they win all the money will go to charity which is great. Basically you’ll be up against some potentially fine judges and will have truly earned the victory if you win.

Here are a few rules for you:

-Entries must be in by Sunday 19th November

-Multiple entries accepted

-No entry fee=no entry, its for charity guys!

-All questions stand regardless of player being dropped/injured/having a bar fight at 4am.

-1 point per correct answer

-If an answer to question is a tie (unlikely but possible) it will be 1 point each

-For tiebreaker question, it is who bats at number 11 on the scorecard, if a number 11 is not used it will be recorded as 0

So please use the link below to enter your answers, there’s no need to inform me when you have done as your answers will be sent directly to me. I will input all entries into a spreadsheet and you will have that before the first test.

PLEASE FORWARD TO FRIENDS/COLLEAGUES so they can enter straight away. We really want lots of entries to boost that pot.

You can also find the competition on Twitter @Ashescomp so share/like/retweet and let’s get as many involved as possible!

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS – click here.

Thank you and good luck! If you have any questions please email gisbymatthew@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Matt
