England pair scoop honours

Quick on the heels of their Ashes success, there was more silverware for the England team this weekend – when two of their top batsmen claimed the prize for Best Run Out at the British Comedy Awards.

Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott triumphed after making a sensational late bid for the gong – with their acclaimed slapstick routine at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

“The judges commended their superb comic timing and the feat of achieving total farce out of nowhere”, a spokesman said.

“When they ended up both running full pelt towards the same set of stumps – that had all the panel in stitches!”

The England duo were doubly pleased by snatching the award away from arch-rivals – and long-standing favourites – Shane Watson and Phil Hughes.

“It just goes to show that anything the Aussies can do – we can go one better”, a delighted Strauss beamed.

But elsewhere the Australians weighed in heavily, with Michael Clarke securing the title for Funniest Arm Tattoos, in the international category.

There was also recognition for Peter Siddle, who was voted Lamest Attempt At A Scary Face, for the third year in a row.

Meanwhile, with a unanimous showing, the Lifetime Comedy Achievement Award went to Mitchell Johnson.

  • When we win the world cup in 2 months time, no one will remember the small blip of a 7-0 defeat. Maybe Australia are going to peak too early before the world cup!
