Dawson Catches The Eye – T20 Report

It makes me smile when there’s a solitary T20 bolted on to the end of tours. The scorecard usually reads ‘only T20’ rather than the ‘1st T20’. And it’s true, yesterday’s game was ‘only’ a T20, however, I suspect there might be broader implications to this one. England’s star bowler yesterday was a spinner, or spinning all-rounder, making his debut. And didn’t he do well. Yes, it was only one game, and even Moeen looked promising in his first few appearances for England, but there was something...

A Right Shellacking: ODI Series Review

England cantered to victory in the 5th ODI at Cardiff on Saturday. Despite losing the toss and batting first on a pitch that helped the seamers, we still posted an imposing 324. Sri Lanka never looked like chasing the total and stuttered to a pretty dismal 202 all out. It was an all too familiar story. The Lankans haven’t really been competitive all summer. England have completely dominated them from start to finish. So much so that cynical old gits (like me!) have wondered how much we’ve...

Roy Wonder – The 4th ODI

The weather in London yesterday was crap. It was gloomy, wet and breezy – not exactly ideal conditions for watching live cricket. Thankfully however, the game itself turned into an absolute peach if you like bat dominating ball. It’s not often you see over 600 runs in just 81 overs. The Oval sometimes produces incredibly high scoring affairs and yesterday’s ODI was one of those occasions. Sri Lanka batted with real intent for a change and compiled a rather handy 305-5 off 42...

Have That – The 2nd ODI

Yesterday’s ODI was obviously overshadowed by broader political events. So much so, in fact, that I must admit I missed most of the game. Sorry! Therefore I can’t really offer too much insight. Perhaps those who actually watched the action live might share their thoughts in the comments. What’s pretty obvious though, just looking at the scorecard, is that England played very well. The bowlers did their bit again – and Adil Rashid bowled beautifully for the second game in a row – and the...

Six In The City – The 1st ODI

Wow. That was insane. Like many people I turned off yesterday’s match when England capitulated to a pathetic 82-6. I decided to watch a bit of the BBC’s Great Debate instead – which I assumed would be heated discussion about the merits of promoting Joe Root to No.3 in the test team. Obviously I was disappointed. However, I did keep an eye on the score as I watched six politicians talk exaggerated bollocks. I’m a fan of both Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes’ batting so I didn’t think our cause...

All Eyes On Eoin

The ODIs start tomorrow. Are you excited? Do you feel like David Boon at a XXXX factory or Giles Clarke in swill? I’ll forgive you if you couldn’t give a full toss. I strongly dislike playing ODIs after test series but that’s life. I’m sad to say that the terrible weather, plus the distraction of Euro 2016, has curbed my appetite for cricket somewhat. Shame on me. I’m sure I’ll come to my senses when the sun comes out and Jos Buttler starts thumping a few boundaries. Although the introduction...
