No Choke This Time? Well batted Australia

So that was the international summer that was. It wasn’t perfect by any means but we should probably be grateful that we saw any live action at all. Massive thanks go to the West Indies, Pakistan and Australia too. We’ve actually seen some pretty good cricket at times even if the atmosphere was a tad surreal. Yesterday’s third and final ODI was a case in point. It oscillated like a classic, records were broken, and the Aussies produced something special to win the game. Kudos...

Australia do an England (again)

Remember the climax of Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade? He finds a room full of goblets and an awful lot of cobwebs. An old knight, who’s allegedly two thousand years old, tells him to drink from one of them. If he’s choses the true Holy Grail then good old Indi gets to save the day and live out the rest of his days with his random love interest. But if he chooses poorly then he dies on the spot, horribly. The Nazis who were hot on his heels go first. They choose the fanciest...

Men’s T20 World Cup Remains On Schedule

World sport is obviously suffering from a period of extreme uncertainty at the moment, with major competitions and events being cancelled or moved. Perhaps the most notable to be shifted is the 2020 football Euros, which has now been delayed by a full year to accommodate domestic football calendars. With the men’s T20 World Cup due in Australia later this year, there was a fear it too might be moved, but it seems that won’t be the case, for now. First Post reports that the event is still set to...

Big Runs, Big Deal? T20 Series Review

Greetings all. Have you caught your breath after the T20 series? What absolute carnage that was. Approximately 400 runs per game and a couple of close finishes too. The organisers certainly got what they wanted. I did originally plan to write a match report after every game. However, tempting as that was after our capitulation in the first match of the series – it’s perfectly acceptable to push a run a ball when you need 7 off 7 lads – I thought it was best to simply write a...

ODI Series Drawn & Who Makes The Plane For Sri Lanka?

There are obviously two things to talk about today. The first is England’s victory in the 3rd ODI in South Africa. The second is the Test squad for Sri Lanka. Therefore this post will be a fusion of the two. It’s the blogging equivalent of buy one get one free. Or BOGOF to us miserable old sods. First up it’s the ODI, which actually turned out to be quite a good game in the end. It was all looking a bit one-sided when the Cricket Boks were reduced to 155-5, but a decent...

Fun In Aukland

I had to laugh when I saw the score in the deciding T20 at Aukland. Of course it was going to end in a tie. The only surprise was that the super over managed to produce a clear winner this time. One wonders what might’ve happened had the super over ended all square. Would they have bowled another over? Would there have been a boundary count-back?  Or would they toss or coin / have a singing contest / determine the match according to the average height of the players’ wives? The...
